About Medtronic Singapore Operations

Medtronic is a global healthcare technology company driven by its Mission to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life, with operations in more than 150 countries and a global workforce of more than 90,000 people. Its Singapore manufacturing site, Medtronic Singapore Operations (MSO), employs approximately 600 people and manufactures core cardiac therapies, including pacemakers and cardiac leads.

As its business continued to grow, MSO recognised the need to modernise its workforce management platform to improve operational efficiency and strengthen compliance. Following a six-month implementation, Ataway led the deployment of UKG Pro Workforce Management Timekeeping, enabling MSO to modernise workforce management while establishing a scalable foundation for future growth.

MSO: Why Change?

As the business continued to expand, MSO saw the need to upgrade its workforce management platform to further improve efficiency and support future growth and compliance requirements.

  • Improve workforce visibility
  • Strengthen manager accountability
  • Reduce HR administrative effort
  • Strengthen compliance

Ataway: Driving the Change

As the implementation lead, Ataway worked closely with Medtronic’s HR, IT, Payroll, and Operations teams throughout the project, providing project governance, change management, and ongoing advisory support to ensure a smooth and successful delivery. Key activities included:

  • Establishing a clear project plan with defined milestones
  • Maintaining project governance through regular meetings to keep work on schedule
  • Providing training and change management support to help teams transition smoothly
  • Delivering ongoing advisory support after go-live to keep the system running smoothly

“Ataway were really very supportive in creating a clear project plan for each of the milestones. From the outset, we already had a good end-to-end project plan and understood what support was needed at each step of the way.”

Kristine Torres | Senior Human Resources Manager, Medtronic Singapore Operations

Kristine Torres said Ataway’s structured project management gave the team clarity and confidence from planning through go-live, keeping stakeholders aligned throughout.

Results

With Ataway’s implementation expertise, MSO successfully modernised its workforce management platform, establishing a more efficient, transparent, and scalable foundation for future workforce operations.

  • Approximately 110 managers and supervisors now handle timecard reviews and leave approvals directly — including remote approvals across regions — improving management efficiency, strengthening accountability and reducing HR administrative effort.
  • Approximately 50,000 employee time punches are processed automatically each month, enabling more accurate and efficient time and attendance management.
  • A single, auditable source of workforce data improves visibility and strengthens compliance.
  • Seamless integration with existing payroll systems ensured a smooth transition with no disruption to business operations.
  • Employees continue using the familiar UKG InTouch time clocks, with the upgrade taking place behind the scenes — keeping frontline employees focused on production.

This project delivered more than a platform upgrade—it built a more efficient, transparent, and scalable workforce management foundation to support MSO’s continued growth.

For organisations pursuing a similar transformation, Kristine recommends planning early and maintaining transparent communication throughout the project: “Don’t wait until it’s too old for you to make the change.”

Looking ahead, Ataway will continue working alongside UKG, leveraging its workforce management expertise and regional delivery capabilities to help organisations across APAC build efficient, compliant, and future-ready workforce management environments.
