BPM and SOA Implementation for an Insurance Industry Leader
Ataway delivers BPM and SOA Implementation for Insurance Industry Leader: the client is an insurance company that serves approximately 78 million customers in more than 70 countries. It’s the market leader in Germany and has a strong international presence. With more than 100,000 employees worldwide, the company offers a comprehensive range of insurance and asset management products and services.
Ataway’s work with the company involved reviewing its existing systems and implementing performance improvements. The client had an SOA and BPM implementation with serious performance problems and with very little knowledge of the products or implementation features. This turned out to be so critical that the client raised the issue to the vendor (Oracle), which in turn asked Ataway for assistance to discover and fix the problems.
Initial Project Plan
The scope of activities: Code Review; Performance Analysis; Implementation of infrastructure and performance improvements.
Countries in scope: Argentina
Service level: Onsite Consulting, Development Services, Training
Duration: Six months
Location of service performed: Argentina
It is always difficult to come into a new account when there are major issues with implementation. Ataway consultants had to understand and modify the solution to solve the many problems that created a very negative image of the product. The client was not experienced in the product or the solution, so Ataway consultants had very little support from them. The original implementation had many more errors and was more complex than Ataway expected. Also, the client had no procedures put in place to build, test or deploy the application.
The Ataway team defined many IT procedures to build and to deploy the application as well as many changes that improved performance and reliability of the solution. In working on the project, Ataway consultants applied their knowledge of antipatterns in Java, SOA and BPM.
Achievements & Outcome
The main achievement of the project was to save the implementation from being discarded. Ataway also managed to efficiently build a solid infrastructure for the client to keep developing applications using BPM. Thanks to its methods and rigor, Ataway achieved this on a tight schedule with a very low budget.
The system is now stable and the client is able to make changes to the application, which it was not capable of doing before Ataway was involved. The client now trusts both Oracle and Ataway’s expertise in SOA tools.
